The Name that Got Away

I spent many years wanting, needing, pining for a dog. Growing up, even though since 9th grade  my family had the heidi puppy, I always added the following to my mom's shopping list.

-puppy
-puppy leash
-puppy bowls
-puppy toys
-puppy food
FOR MICHELLE!!

So, as you can imagine, I spent some spare time dreaming of that magical day when I would have my own dog. Along with these daydreams came my scheming for puppy names.

Mine and Nathan's favorite: Nurbs.

Yes Nurbs. Short for: Non-uniform rational B-spline. That's what we get for being 3d modeling majors...

But for now I guess we'll stick with Sir Dillan de Pico and his other names.

Health Nuts

So Nathan and I have "made" the "decision" to try and live healthier...

meaning on Saturday night we did a work out, nathan had a snack of carrots, and Sunday after church we went to Olive Garden where we split water and a diet coke...

Obviously we are not out to a great start...

And clearly, we need some help and guidance on where to begin.

My guess is at the diet. I do 90% of the grocery shopping and cooking so I think I can control, mostly, what we consume. But even after 3.5 years of marriage, i don't know how to keep boys full. They just eat more. They're bigger and a grilled chicken salad just doesn't cut it. maybe that's a perspective thing that changes as the body adjusts to different types and amounts of food, but I've always struggled with how to feed my husband.

So, I think I'm going to try this whole Paleo thing...at least gradually.

I'll keep you guys updated on how it works out...

In the meantime any words of advise? Anyone have a successful diet, successful being you feel great, more energy, less hungry, etc?

P.S. I've started an ice cream pin board, which will be really helpful...

For my Sister

I traveled to my parents last weekend to help throw my little sister a bridal shower. Instead of finding something off her registry, which I did peruse anyway, I wanted to give her something a little more personal and sweet.

Blank printed sheet
After seeing a free download link to Love vs. Design's free printable page, via How about Orange, I knew that I wanted to write out recipe cards for Laura.

filling them in.
It was a super easy thing. Just print out the cards and write in the recipes. I was stoked to find so many of the people who attended her shower wanted to participate too. Now she has a box 1/6 (maybe?) full of family recipes. So exciting.

I even wrote out some fun cooking quotes on the divider cards.

Oh, MFK Fisher, you know me.

All in all, it was super successful. I think I ended up with almost 70 recipes. And they all seemed simple enough for a new cook to do!

Be bold Laura, keep trying new things! That's the only way that I learned to cook and feel confident! And remember, if all else fails.
